Sting in Atlanta last night

So I saw Sting last night in Atlanta and it was great. First I have to rub in that I got free box seats from a friend which made the whole experience that much more enjoyable in that I could watch and focus on the show, and not have my unfortunate redneck fellow statesmen spill beer on me the entire set. Anyway, tacky to mention, yes but I never get seats like this to anything. On to the show

Keith was great. Taste was the word last night. If you catch this tour, and Roxanne seems to be dragging in some sort of loooonnnngggg quiet hippie jam, wait it out, the ending is incredible. Keith is a true master of Flavor. Although the whole show went well, the key songs for Keith last night were Englishman in New York (man this guy CAN swing), Roxanne (Wow! that ending), Synchronicity II(Just a favorite of mine played with great enthusiasm), and The end of Send Your Love(Tasty Fills!).

All this said, Man do I miss Vinnie. I realized and, you know what I am talking about, listening to Seven Days with anyone else on drums is just not on the same level. I can be impressed, and believe me, Keith was awesome, but when you see Vinnie, you get to see the impossible. Well, enough said. Sorry if it seems like a wild banter, I am just waking up and wanted to share with everyone.

Oh Yeah, people went to see Sting and sad but true, I was probably one of twenty(?) out of about 16,000 people who knew or cared who Keith Carlock was, and missed Vinnie.

What was my man Steve Barney like with Annie Lennox? He has the phattest groove and is a pretty big fish over here in England, particularly over the last 5 years...

Steve was solid as a rock. They played for what seemed to be a little over an hour. The sound was great and he really drove the songs well. Sweet Dreams had Steve hitting a trigger on the one and it sounded HUGE. Great playing by everyone that night. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is a Sting or Annie Lenox fan.

I also admit that Keith Carlock has come a long way. Saw him with Sting last Spring. But, last Spring, the opening band for the Sting Sacred Love tour was the Chris Botti Band.

Now, what a revelation to see and hear his drummer Billy Kilson. Man, he just knocked me out of my seat ! And with Chris Botti, he was playing soft jazz ! Saw him also with the Dave Holland Big Band, and wow, he was again the star of the concert ! Some compare is playing as a mix of Tony Williams, Art Blakey and Dennis Chambers ! If any of you have a chance to see Billy Kilson play, grab it. He is the next great drummer, a drummer"s drummer to say the least ! Billy also has his own band: BK Groove.
